The 80th Anniversary Of The Flag Raising On Iwo Jima Commemorated This Saturday

The Conemaugh Valley Detachment #287 of the The Marine Corps League will mark the 80th anniversary of the flag raising atop Iwo Jima, on Saturday, Feb. 22.
The ceremony will be held in Franklin Borough at 1100 at the Sgt. Strank Memorial Park, named after Marine flag raiser Michael Strank. Michael Strank lived in Franklin before joining the Marines to serve during WWII.
We spoke to Mike Burgan from The Conemaugh Valley Detachment #287 of the The Marine Corps League about this Saturday’s event.
